Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church:  that we may be open to the immense generosity of God’s love and compassion for us, and pass it along to others who are searching and yearning for life

For growth in our faith: that we may trust God’s love and care for us as we face challenges in our lives and remain faithful in our discipleship and loyal to our commitments

For the grace of generosity: that God will free our hearts to share from our abundance so that all the human family may participate in God’s blessings

For openness of heart: that all may receive Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment with openness of mind and a concern for the common good

For all who are ill, particularly children: that God’s gift of life may be renewed within them and that they may be restored to health and wholeness

For the parents of children who are ill: that God will comfort them, ease their fear, and give them strength to keep loving and supporting their children

For all who are clinging to life, particularly those who have fled war, gangs, famine or natural disasters: that we may be more aware of their need and more generous in the sharing of our resources

For all who are incapacitated by age, disability, mental illness or illiteracy: that they may be respected as persons and receive the food, shelter and medical care they need

For all entrapped by loneliness: that God’s love may break through their bonds and heal their deepest hurts

For all who are grieving: that God will ease their pain and help them find someone to share their burden

For all who are seeking employment: that God will help them make new connections and lead them to new opportunities to use their gifts

For all who have been marginalized by society or considered inferior: that God will heal their spirits and help them to know their dignity as children of God

For an easing of financial crises around the world: that God will inspire all leaders with new ways to advance the common good, maintain peace and safety, and promote justice in society

For an end to abortion and the death penalty: that the dignity of human life may be recognized and protected in our society

For all who have died by violence, particularly those in the church shooting in South Carolina: that God will turn hearts from violence and help everyone to come to a new appreciation of human life

For the gift of peace: that God will open new pathways toward peace and help government leaders to promote justice and opportunity
