Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that the Spirit of God will empower us to boldly announce the truth and reveal the weaknesses of popular attitudes

For the gift of Wisdom:  that we may gain insight through reflecting on the Word of God and find guidance to live as Children of God

For transformation: that we may allow God’s power to work through our weaknesses and incompleteness and free us to become passionate disciples

For a new beginning: that God will free us from our mistakes and failures, and help us to start again through God’s love and power working within us

For freedom of spirit: that God will free us from all attachments so that we may respond wholeheartedly and unconditionally to God’s invitations

For all who are called to speak prophetically: that they will listen attentively to the voice of Christ and faithfully announce God’s message so that all may have life

For healing of our hearts: that God will heal us of the experiences of being misunderstood or unappreciated and strength us to continue to show God’s love in our words and deeds

For all who have been killed or wounded by violence, particularly the South Carolina church members: that God will give them life and comfort their families

For openness: that we may take to heart Pope Francis teachings and work to protect the earth for future generations

For acceptance of others: that God will help us to be open to the stranger and their gifts as they enter our lives so that we may be nurtured and enriched by them

For all families and communities which are divided:  that the healing power of God's Spirit may lead them to reconciliation and forgiveness

For all who are traveling this summer: that their journeys will be safe and their time away renewing and refreshing

For family members and loved ones who have turned away from God: that our witness of faithful love and compassionate service may open them to the God who loves them

For all who are struggling with addictions, weaknesses or bad habits: that God’s grace may sustain and free them

For all who are suffering, for the sick, for victims of crime, for those recovering from natural disasters, or who are unemployed: that God will support them, give them strength and fill their hearts with hope

For all who are working to end Ebola: that God will guide their efforts, protect them from harm and bring healing to those who are ill

For all who serve in the military: that God will guide and protect them from harm and bring them safely home to family and friends

For peace: that God will turn hearts from violence, particularly in Syria, Iraq, and Africa, and guide all toward the establishment of safety, justice and peace

[USA] For these United States: that God will guide us in achieving the ideals on which this nation was founded: respect for life, maintenance of liberty, and establishment of justice for all
