Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may each bring forth the reign of God in our work, our relationships, and our communities

For all bishops, successors to the Apostles: that God will strengthen and renew them as they guide the church’s mission and lead it to greater unity

For an increase in courage: that we may face questions and rejection confidently as we follow God’s call in our lives

For the grace to travel lightly: that we may surrender all to which we cling so that our hands and hearts may be open to do the work of God

For our companions on the faith journey, for family, friends, co-workers and fellow parishioners: that we may be faithful witnesses to the work of God in one another's lives and honor our commitments to one another

For all who are making vocation and lifestyle decisions: that God will guide and assist them in recognizing their call to holiness and wholeness

For all missionaries: that they may have support in their ministry and clear vision of how to best serve those to whom they have been sent

For all who are away from loved ones, particularly those serving in the military or humanitarian efforts: that God will keep them safe and help them to fulfill their duties

For all who are in need of healing: that the Spirit of God will renew and restore the gift of life within them

For wisdom for all political leaders: that God will inspire them to protect our freedoms and liberties, and guide them in promoting policies to help those who are in greatest need

For all seeking employment: that God will guide their search, help them to fully present their talents, and be open to new opportunities that they have not considered previously

For all who are in difficult relationships: that God will lead them to greater truth and new insights into how to love and respect each other

For a season of peace: that God will turn hearts from violence, particularly in Syria, and open new pathways for safety, peace, and justice in all troubled areas

For all who suffer from flooding, wildfires, or drought: that God will calm the forces of nature, heal the wounds and fears of those who are suffering, and speed the assistance which they need to rebuild their lives
