Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the church that we allow the transforming power of God to work in our minds and hearts and bring forth a harvest of justice and mercy

For all who are discerning their gifts, talents, and abilities: that the Spirit will guide them in recognizing and developing their true gifts

For Wisdom: that we may recognize the small ways God is at work in our lives so that we may cooperate with God who accomplishes great things

For healing and transformation of our weaknesses: that the Spirit of God will work within us to bring us to wholeness in the areas in which we are most in need

For the grace of patience: that we may defer judgment on those things that are unclear and await insight from God to make wise choices

For all who bound by hatred, resentment, and revenge: that the seeds of the Evil One not lead to violence and destruction in personal, racial, or international relations

For the gift of humility: that we may recognize God’s call to life each day and be open to God’s creative work within us

For all who are caught in past mistakes: that God will free them and help them to begin again

For all who are trapped in prostitution or the drug culture: that God will guide them to freedom and to the resources to build a new life

For all who are gathered here: that we may be a leaven of compassion and hospitality in our society for all who turn to us

For a deepening of prayer: that we may courageously wait in silence for the Spirit to make intercession through us

For all who work for social justice and reconciliation: that their efforts may be a leaven in society to bring forth the reign of God

For the members of Congress: that the Spirit will inspire and motivate them to end resistance and reach decisions on the important issues before them

For all government leaders: that God will inspire them in developing just immigration policies for those who seek to find a new home

For all immigrants and refugees, particularly the children arriving at the US border: that their dignity may be respected and that they may find places safe from violence, gangs, and oppression

For all who are traveling: that they may travel safely, have good visits, and find rest and renewal in their time away

For poets, composers, writers, and entertainers: that God will inspire them with creative energies that will build up the human family

For Peace in the Middle East: that the seeds of justice and compassion will bear fruit and bring forth a new season of negotiation and understanding amongst all who live in the Holy Land
