Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may be nourished by Christ, the Bread of Life, and find in Christ the fulfillment for all the hungers and yearnings of our hearts

For the grace to imitate Christ: that we may put on the mind and heart of Christ in showing compassion and forgiveness to others

For the ability to forgive: that through the forgiveness that God has shown us, we may be free to forgive all who have wronged us

For a new vision of our life journey: that we may see the vision that God holds for us and rely upon God as we encounter trials, struggles and doubts

For a transformation of our minds and hearts: that God will free us from all bitterness and anger as we allow ourselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit each day

For those who have been wounded by the anger and malice of others: that God will heal their hearts and renew their spirits

For all community leaders: that the Holy Spirit will guide them in promoting justice and understanding so that poverty and discrimination may be reduced

For all gathered here: that renewed by Word and Sacrament, we may lay down our lives in sacrificial love to those to whom we are committed and for those who have been entrusted to our care

For the poor and homeless: that they may find food, shelter and acceptance, and that our hearts will be open to their truth and dignity

For students as they return to school: that God will guide them as they grown in knowledge, skills and friendships

For all who have been called to witness to the truth: that the Spirit will make strong their witness and protect them from all harm

For all who have experienced abuse: that God will heal their pain and help them to live their lives fully

For peace and an end to all violent conflicts, particularly in the Middle East and Africa: that God will open new pathways for understanding and guide all leaders in establishing justice and safety

For all who have died: that they may share in the eternal life that the Bread of Life promised

For an end to nuclear proliferation: that God will guide us away from nuclear weapons and the possibility of destroying the earth so that future generations may enjoy the richness of earth’s beauty
