THE GOSPEL
Matthew 21:33-43Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones,
but they treated them in the same way..
Often.
Often,
you send us
as workers to your
vineyard.
Make us cornerstones, not loose weights,
not moved by rejection, suspicion,
contempt, or even
death.
Send us, in your care,
to nurture your
choicest
wine.
THE FIRST READING
Isaiah 5:1-7My friend had a vineyard on a fertile hillside
Master
of the vineyard,
we are your fertile garden.
We grow rare fruit on our choice vines.
But our branches
so often go
wild:
unsheltered,
unnourished,
and barren.
Guard us please.
Tame us.
THE SECOND READING
Philippians 4:6-9Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.
Lord, Jesus,
we come in
droves,
in hordes.
“Bring your deepest
craving to me,”
you say.
Your peace, you tell us, which
outruns all understanding,
shelters our hearts
and minds and
souls.
Thanks for granting our
often awkward
pleas.
