Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that our truest selves, beloved daughters and sons of God, may be revealed more and more through our Lenten observances

For the grace of recognition: that our hearts may be enlightened by and our minds be open to the everyday ways in which God reveals the truth to us

For all who lead the Church: that they may be transformed by the vision of Christ and help all of us to deepen our faith and grow in love

For all who gathered here today: that we may always trust the God who gives us life as did Abraham in facing challenges and difficulties which we don’t understand

For wisdom and insight: that following powerful moments in our lives, we may draw strength from them to live fully our everyday responsibilities

For all the children of Abraham: that through our witness to the one True God, we may manifest God’s justice and virtue in our world

For the candidates who are preparing for reception into the church: that they may come to a deeper appreciation of their baptism into Christ's death and resurrection and find healing of their weaknesses in their celebration of the sacrament of penance

For all judges: that God will give them insight and wisdom as they seek to serve justice and the common good

For leaders of our nation: that God will touch their hearts to work for those in greatest need and to seek ways to promote the common good

For all who assist us through difficult times, especially sponsors, friends, social workers, and home health care workers: that God will continue to renew them and strengthen them

For all who are caught in violence, particularly the people of Syria: that God will bring an end to violence and relief to all who are suffering

For all who are seeking employment: that God will open new possibilities for them to use their gifts and better our society

For students on spring break: that their travels and vacations may be safe and that they will have the strength to reject the allurements of drugs and alcohol

For Peace: that God will inspire the minds and hearts of all leaders to seek the path of negotiation and reconciliation
