Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may be attentive to God’s invitations and relying upon God’s grace to respond unselfishly and wholeheartedly

For all beginning a new commitment: that God will free them from fear and help them to trust that God will provide all that they need to fulfill their commitment

For all who are discerning God's call: that they may have wisdom and insight to know the voice of the Lord and courage to follow

For a greater recognition of our poverty: that the Spirit of God will help us acknowledge how much we need God and help us to confidently pray each day for strength and understanding

For all who lead others to God, particularly spiritual directors, missionaries, and retreat masters: that God will inspire and make fruitful their efforts in helping others to come to know Christ

For the grace to listen: that we may follow Christ away from the noise and demands of daily life and enter into the silent depths of our hearts where God can speak to us

For greater trust: that we may rely upon God’s love and providence as we enter the deeper waters of vocation, marriage, parenting and employment

For the grace to share the Good News: that the Spirit will inspire us to share with those who are searching, the joy and hope that we have experienced in coming to know Christ

For a deepening conversion of heart: that through prayer and reflection we may recognize how we need to change and accept the challenges of living the Gospel each day

For all who feel unwelcome before God or unworthy of God’s presence: that God’s unconditional love may heal and renew them, and draw them into communion with God

For our earth: that the glory of God may be revealed to all through creation and that we may be good stewards of all its resources

For all who are imprisoned unjustly: that they may know God’s presence and feel united to the Body of Christ

For all who are ill, particularly those suffering mentally or emotionally: that God will lift their burden, help them find the right resources to assist them and fill their hearts with peace

For all who are suffering from violence or civil unrest: that God will give them strength, protect the innocent from harm and open dialogue to resolve the conflict

For all who have died: that they may share fully in the new life of Christ and live with God forever
