Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may grow in our awareness that Christ is in us and see the hand of God in the people, the events in our lives and in the created world around us

For the renew of God’s Spirit in our hearts: that God will stir up into a flame the gift of the Spirit so that we may build up the Body of Christ and bring forth God’s reign in the world

For all who are graduating from High School: that God will guide them as they enter adulthood, help their faith to mature and inspire them to use their gifts for the good of others

For a new spirit in our personal interactions: that we may speak with reverence and gentleness to one another, recognizing that we have become sisters and brothers in Christ

For an awareness of the interdependence of all life: that we appreciate our impact upon others and their impact upon us as we make decisions about relationships, the use of our time, and the utilization of our resources

For wisdom for how to care for the earth: that God will give us insight and courage as we seek to preserve God’s gifts of water, land, and climate for the good of those who come after us

For the gift of Hope: that we may remain confident in God’s love toward us despite hardship, confusion, conflicts and ill-spoken words against us

For the unity of all Christians: that the Spirit of God will heal the misunderstandings and wounds in the Body of Christ and lead us to a greater unity of mind and action as we confront evil and work to ease human suffering

For all missionaries: that their words and deeds may draw others to Christ and that they may be ever refreshed by God’s love

For all Christians experiencing persecution, particularly those kidnapped or held unjustly: that the Spirit of Truth will help them bear witness to Christ, renew their spirits and heal their pain

For all who have been orphaned: that God will protect them from harm, help them to find people whom they can trust and touch the hearts of many to reach out to them

For all recovering from natural disasters: that God will fill them with courage, renew their strength and guide them as they rebuild their lives

For all government leaders: that God will inspire them to act justly, listen to the needs of society and promote the truth

For peace: that God will inspire world leaders with new ways to right injustice, establish peace and promote the good of the human family
