Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

Ascension of the Lord C - May 13 or 16, 2010

For the Church: that we, who have been renewed by our celebrations of the paschal mystery, may place our talents and energies in the service Christ’s reign

For a renewal of our hearts: that we work to bring the brokenness, injustice, and selfishness of our society under the saving and redeeming love of Christ

For the grace of wisdom: that we may value all that is holy and life-giving and utilize well all of the gifts that we have been give

For all who spread the Good News, especially missionaries, preachers, and writers: that God will inspire them to bold and dynamically announce God’s love and presence to all

For all who are awaiting the coming of the Holy Spirit into their lives, especially candidates for Confirmation and Holy Orders: that God will pour out abundantly the Spirit upon them and empower them to serve others with love and compassion

For a healing of racism: that all nations and peoples may recognize the value and dignity that God has given each person and work together to bring forth the reign of God in the world

For all who are recovering from storms, floods, and tornadoes: that God will heal their wounds, renew their spirits, and help the hearts of many to be moved to assist them

For all who are struggling against the oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico: that God will give them strength, wisdom and the assistance they need as they face this challenge

For government leaders: that God will inspire them with courage and new understanding as they strive to establish just and humane immigration procedures

For all who are graduating this spring: that God will help them find employment that will use their gifts to make a difference in our society

For all victims of violence, especially the Christian students in Iraq: that God will heal their pain, ease their fear, and give them courage to be living witnesses to the Gospel

For all who face the future with fear or apprehension: that God will give them courage and peace to follow Jesus each day

For all who are oppressed or persecuted: that they will draw strength from the victory of Christ and hold fast to the hopes planted in their hearts

For peace throughout the world: that all parties may turn from violence and seek the common good of all people

For a greater respect for human life: that hearts may be touched and minds open the beauty of all human life

For all who have been touched by violence and terrorism: that God will heal their pain and help them to forgive their oppressors
