Readings for the Ascension

Readings for the Seventh Sunday of Easter C

I ask the grace that we all may be one.

(Introductory Prayers)

THE GOSPEL
According to Luke, Chapter 24, Verses Luke 46-53 (Ascension)

According to John, Chapter 17, Verses 20-26 (Seventh Sunday)

“I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one.”

Jesus,
you said,

“Father, they are your gift to me
I wish that where I am
they also may be
with me.”

You took all of us who believe in you
straight to the heart of the Trinity, right to the heart of

infinite love,
to the creator of all things,
to the prime mover and our raison d‘être.

The Father sent you because he loved us.
Give us an understanding of the infinite love that makes us one.

Christ Jesus,
if we are the Father’s gifts to you,
then let us be gifts to
each other
.

THE FIRST READING
Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 1, Verses 1-11 (Ascension)
Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 7, Verses 55-60 (Seventh Sunday)

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem., throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

He
lingered awhile;
it was hard for him to leave them.

But Jesus had to go on
so he could give them his Spirit,
his precious gift,

Jesus,
with the power of the Spirit let us be your witnesses
so we can take your message
of love
and forgiveness
to the ends of the earth.

Father of Glory,
enlighten the eyes of our hearts
so that we might know and love your son,

who is born to be your fullness,
and who fills all things
in every way
with
your love.
