Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

The Epiphany of the Lord – January 8, 2012

For the grace of understanding: that like the Wise Men we will recognize God’s message in nature, in events, and in our relationships

For greater trust: that God’s Light may guide us into the uncharted future and that we may follow in confidence knowing God’s love and care for us

For all who are seekers: for those who long for meaning, for those who desire commitment, and for those who wish to begin again: that God will work in their hearts to lead them to wholeness and fulfillment

For all who have dreams: that the Spirit of God will empower them to seek and search for the ways to follow and fulfill their dreams

For a spirit of awe: that we may be gifted with childlike awe as we look afresh at our relationships, at opportunities, and at the natural world

For migrants and refugees: that God will help them to establish new lives and experience justice and respect in their new homeland

For catechumens and candidates: that their search for Christ and a Christian Community may lead them to an ever deepening experience of Emmanuel

For an end to the clouds of racial and ethnic hatred: that God will bring all people to recognize the unity of the human family

For greater unity and cooperation within the human family: that we may be open to gifts and talents of every person and group so that the evils of poverty, disease, and violence may be eliminated

For all who help others discover the way, for spiritual directors, counselors, teachers and parents: that they may help those who look to them to listen for God’s invitations and offer loving support in times of challenges

For all who are grasped by fear: that God will free their minds and open before them new possibilities for relationships and growth

For those who are seeking employment: that God will light the way for them to find new opportunities to use their gifts and talents fully, and to support their families

For the gift of peace: that all hearts may strive to reject violence and yearn to follow the ways of the Prince of Peace

For the Church: that we may untiringly bring the Light of truth to those who are searching for something more in life
