Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we who have been forgiven much may love God and neighbor with grateful hearts

For this community of faith: that we may be instruments of God’s forgiveness and mercy to all who are burdened by brokenness, alienation and sin

For growth in faith: that we may recognize our need for God, allow God to assist us each day and lead us to new and fuller life

For all who are alienated or isolated from God or the Christian community: that God’s Spirit will break the bonds, heal the wounds, and lead them to freedom and reconciliation

For freedom from self-righteousness: that we may see others as children of God and let go of judgments based on appearances or rumor

For a deeper appreciation of our baptism: that we may grow in our awareness of Christ’s life within us and live no longer for ourselves but rather for God each day

For a spirit of gratitude: that we may recognize all the gifts and opportunities that God has given us and show our gratitude by using them for God’s glory and the good of others

For freedom from sin: that all who are entrapped by sin may be freed by the experience of forgiveness and live their lives in loving service

For families torn by abuse or violence: that God will heal the pain and open a path to reconciliation

For all who have been wounded by adultery: that they may know the healing word of Jesus and be able to love and trust again

For all who are recovering from natural disasters: that God will ease their pain, strengthen their spirits, and speed the assistance which they need

For all who are fighting disease, those treating the sick and those researching the diseases: that God will inspire them with love, courage, and perseverance so the life may be protected

For peace: that God will turn hearts from violence and help those in conflict to dialogue and find new ways to resolve disputes

For all fathers: that God will inspire and guide them so that they may be signs of God the Father’s love and presence to their children

For our nation’s leaders: that they may grow in their respect for human life and authentic religious freedom so that all may follow God’s path for life
