Christ, set us free to love as you loved.

THE
GOSPEL
Luke 9:51-62
Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests.
|
Jesus, when you say, "Follow me,"
you ask us for too much.
You ask us for
everything.
Please deepen our trust.
Let us
pack our bags lightly
and then go where you call us.
Loosen us from heavy things,
ones that fasten us to
our very safe
spots.
Let us lay our heads
where you lay
yours.
James
and John
dropped their nets
to follow the Lord, Jesus.
Elisha
left his fields
to follow the prophet.
When you, God, call us in our everyday lives
help us to leave our plowing
and our fishing.
THE
SECOND
READING
Galatians 5:1, 13-18
The whole law is fulfilled on one statement, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
|
Father,
you created us in love.
Only one thing you ask in return:
that we love our neighbors
as ourselves.
Christ,
set us free
to love as you loved.
Knock down those high fences
that keep us from giving
and receiving
love.
