Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may hear God’s call to discipleship and follow wholeheartedly for God’s glory

For the grace of freedom: that we may know freedom of mind and heart so that we can serve those in need around us and not be controlled by the expectations and demands of others

For a deeper trust of God: that we may grow in accepting God’s saving love for us and surrender our attempts to control God and our salvation

For all who are hearing the Gospel for the first time: that God’s Word may touch their hearts and guide them into a deeper knowledge of God

For Christian communities that are experiencing oppression and persecution: that God will strengthen them, renew their hope, and give them courage

For all who are making life decisions: that they may be aware of God’s invitations planted deep within their hearts and courageously choose paths that lead to life and holiness

For all who are making journeys, particularly pilgrims, refugees, and those going on service trips: that God will guide and protect them on their journey and lead them to new discoveries about themselves and God’s love for them

For conversion of our hearts: that the Spirit will inspire us to turn from revenge and empower us to forgive those who wound us

For Pope Francis: that God will renew and strengthen him in leading the church to greater service, love and unity

For all who will benefit from the Peter’s Pence Collection: that all who suffer from famine, disasters and hardship may experience support through our love and concern

For all who are called to bear prophetic witness: that God will help them proclaim the truth clearly and faithfully so that hearts may be converted more fully to God

For the gift of healing: that families divided by faith and religious practice may recognize the God who is at work in every heart and experience renewal of their relationships

For the members of Congress: that God will give them wisdom in recognizing the key issues of the day and help them to respect those who hold different approaches

For cooperation among nations: that various nations may lay aside small differences and work together to defeat disease, malnourishment, and shortages of drinkable water
