Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may come to know Jesus, enter into relationship with him and never be satisfied with just knowing things about him

For courage: that we may fulfill our ministry of being prophets by announcing the truth in our words and deeds, and by uncovering the misconceptions of popular attitudes

For the gift of Wisdom:  that we may gain insight through reflecting on the Word of God and find guidance to live as Children of God

For greater trust: that God will strengthen us when we feel inadequate because of weaknesses or inexperience and free us to become passionate disciples

For healing: that the Spirit will renew us when we are misunderstood or unappreciated and inspire us to show God’s love in every circumstance

For a new beginning: that God will free us from our mistakes and failures, and help us to start again through God’s love and power working within us

For freedom of spirit: that God will free us from all attachments so that we may respond wholeheartedly and unconditionally to God’s invitations

For transformation of our hearts: that we may recognize our greatest weakness, surrender it to God, and allow God to work within us for his glory

For all who are alienated from their families or communities: that God will open new opportunities for dialogue and reconciliation

For acceptance of others: that God will help us to be open to the stranger and their gifts as they enter our lives so that we may be nurtured and enriched by them

For family members and loved ones who have turned away from God: that our witness of faithful love and compassionate service may open them to the God who loves them

For all who are struggling with addictions, weaknesses or bad habits: that God’s grace may sustain and free them

For all who are suffering, for the sick, for victims of crime, for those recovering from natural disasters, and for children and parents who are separated: that God will ease their pain, give them strength, and fill their hearts with hope

For openness: that we may take to heart Pope Francis teachings and work to protect the earth for future generations

For peace: that God will turn hearts from violence and help all to recognize the dignity and value each person’s life
