Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

For the Church: that we may spread the hopeful and exciting message of the Gospel through both our words and deeds so that others may encounter the God who loves them

For a greater love for the Word of God: that we may make space in our busy lives to allow the Word of God to challenge and prune us so that we may bear abundant fruit

For all who spread the Word of God, for preachers, teachers, parents, and writers: that they may announce God’s loving compassion faithfully and convincingly so that others may come to know the living God

For the courage to share our faith through stories: that we may offer others the joy of coming to know God’s love through sharing the story of our journey with God

For freedom from all that enslaves our hearts, particularly financial cares, and anxieties: that we may allow God’s Word to empower us, to deepen our reliance upon God and to free us to live as God’s children

For the created world: that we may promote respect for God’s creation and cooperate with God’s plan as creation is brought to fulfillment

For a calming of the restlessness in our hearts: that we may find fulfillment of our deepest longings in the embrace of God

For all who have closed their hearts to God’s Word: that God will break through their barriers and that we may be living signs of the Good News

For all who are seeking employment: that God will give them courage as they search and open their hearts to new possibilities and opportunities

For an end to the pandemic: that God will free the human family from the coronavirus, guide all who searching for treatments or a vaccine, and protect all who are vulnerable from the disease

For all healthcare workers: that God will give them strength as they care for the sick and protect them from illness

For all who are struggling with addictions: that they may recognize their need for God, have their desires reduced, ands be open to the support that others can offer

For conversion of hearts: that God will free us from prejudice and unfair judgements so that each person may be treated with dignity and respect

For refugees and immigrants, particularly children: that they may be welcomed as a brother or sister in the Lord and treated with love and respect

For a new springtime of Justice: that God’s reign of Justice and Peace may develop abundantly in our hearts and in all the structures of our society
