Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may recognize God’s presence in our lives and heed the word of life spoken in our hearts

For the grace of compassion: that we may allow the pain and suffering of others to move our hearts and spirits to a loving response

For the gift of insight: that God will lead us through the generalities of religious language and help us see how to respond to our neighbor’s needs today

For the grace of humility: that God will help us to surrender our life into God’s loving care and to give ourselves in service to others

For conversion of our hearts and spirits: that God will teach us how love with our heart, soul, mind and strength

For the gift of courage: that we may let go of our fear and carry out all that God asks of us

For deeper faith: that God will lead us to an ever deeper and more life giving relationship with Christ, the firstborn of creation and the firstborn from the dead

For all who have been the victims of crime: that God will heal their loss and help them to continue to be open to those who come into their lives

For all who have reached out and supported us in times of need: that God will bless them abundantly and help us to reach out to others with generous hearts

For all who care for those in need, particularly those working in food pantries, soup kitchens, outreach ministries, and care of the homebound: that they may continue to bring God’s love and compassion to life for those whom they serve

For reconciliation: that the work of Christ in reconciling all things in himself may bear fruit in our lives, amongst religious communities, and in our civic society

For all who are ill: that they may know the tender touch of God through the prayer and care of this community

For all who are on mission or service trips this summer: that they may find God in a new way as they share their gifts with others and that God will protect them on the journey

For the leaders of government: that God will guide them in facing the challenges of immigration and the protection of the dignity of each person

For a healing of racism: that all people may look upon one another as sisters and brothers and work for the advancement of one another

For all who have been impacted by wildfires, particularly the people of Arizona and Colorado: that God will fill their hearts with courage, ease their pain and loss, and speed the relief which they need

For nations in turmoil: that God will touch hearts and open minds to new ways to promote the good and safety of all people

For peace in the world: that God will heal longstanding injuries and guide enemies to new understanding and trust
