THE
GOSPEL
Luke 10:25-37
He said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
|
Lord,
who is this passerby
who cleaned the man’s wounds?
You are.
You are the soul
of the humble passer-by.
And who among us shares your soul?
Mother Teresa and some other saints perhaps,
whose hands and hearts always welcomed you as guest.
Please let us find the place where you live within us.
Let us be bold enough to clean wounds,
to kindly shelter our neighbors,
to help pay their bills and
give them your
helping
hand.
Where can we find your commandment, O Lord?
Could it be hidden in the sky? Who will go up
and find it there and explain it to us?
Is it across the sea? Who will
cross that sea and get it for
us so we can consider
it and attempt to
understand
it?
“The
command
that I gave you is
not remote or mysterious.
Look no farther than your heart.
My law, the law of love, is written there,
on your heart, in your mouth, in your very being.
I created you in my image. You love because I love.”
Erase our questions, Lord.
Teach us how to
receive.
All things in heaven and earth, powers, principalities, dominions
were created through you and for you, O Christ.
Yet you reached far down in us
and hollowed us out,
put within us
your own
Image.
Are you beyond our knowing?
If so, not beyond
our love.
Christ,
let us find you
in all you have created.
