Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may offer patient and gentle care to all who find life’s journey burdensome

For the grace to slow down and be aware of the gifts and graces that God offers us each day

For all who exercise leadership: that they may place their gifts unselfishly in the service of others and be guided to draw forth the gifts of those around them

For all disciples: that we may recognize our common humanity with others and reach out to others from a shared sense of interdependence

For all dioceses that are awaiting new bishops: that the Spirit will guide the selection process and bring forth true and faithful shepherds to guide the Lord’s flock

For all who offer retreats and places of solitude: that they will help others to rest and renew their relationship with God and with themselves

For all who serve in ministry: that God will refresh their spirits, help them keep their lives in balance, and renew them in mind and body

For all missionaries: that God will renew them and help them find places and moments of rest in the midst of the many demands they face

For refugees, migrant workers, the homeless, and the oppressed: that God may show them a shepherd's care and raise up effective leaders to assist them

For all who have suffered abuse: that God’s loving compassion will bring healing to their bodies, minds and spirits, and that the life-giving Spirit will give them hope and courage

For all who lack adequate health or dental care: that policies may be developed to help those who are most in need

For all who suffer from heat, drought, or wildfires: that God will protect them from further harm, ease their pain, and speed the assistance which they need

For safety for all attending the Olympics: that God will protect from harm and give safe travel to all athletes and spectators at the Olympic Games

For Peace in all areas that have conflict: that God may lead all the parties like a shepherd away from violence and into greater appreciation of life and the value of each person
