Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may recognize God's presence in both the extraordinary moments and in the quiet ordinary events of our lives

For grace of deeper trust in God: that we may surrender our fears to God who makes all things work for the good and who is always with us

For a growth in faith: that we may keep Christ as the center of our attention and never tire of calling out for God’s saving help when a challenges arise

For freedom from fear: that we may hear the voice of Christ calling us to “not be afraid” and confidently move forward each day

For the Jewish people, recipients of the promises and covenant, and bearers of much hardship: that they may ever deepen their relationship with God and remain faithful to the One who has called them

For the common projects of Jews and Christians: that we may grow in respect for one another and work together against prejudice, hatred and poverty

For all who struggle with doubt and uncertainty: that they may find a path for growth and deeper faith

For all who are separated from loved ones, particularly members of the military: that they will find strength in Christ who makes us all one

For families facing crisis: that they may hear Christ’s invitation to step forward in faith and find healing and renewal as they take the hand of Christ

For all sail or who make their living on the sea: that God will protect and guide them each day

For all who are suffering from drought or the aftermath of flooding or wildfires: that God will give them courage, ease their pain, and help many to assist them

For all who are facing the storms of persecution, particularly the Christians in Asia, Africa and the Middle East: that God will keep them safe and help them to faithfully witness to the Gospel

For all who live in areas of violence: that God will preserve them and help them to be strong in faith, hope and love

For all who are experiencing the storms of daily life: that they may keep their eyes and attention on Jesus who strengthens us and calms our chaos

For Peace: that God may calm the storms of war and bloodshed and bring the human family to calm and cooperation
