A Poem to Sit With
Nineteenth Sunday
of Ordinary Time A

J. Janda

Peter said to him in reply,
“Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
He said, “Come.”
(Gospel)

The Cradle of Grace

we live in God
as in a house

with a roof of stars
and a bed of grass

and we—every
thing—
are his dreams

but for our lust to
conjure horror—

though who has looked
upon helplessness

has looked upon God

imaged best in a baby

J. Janda
