Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may truly be a sign of God’s presence and a means for all people to come to deeper prayer and authentic worship of God

For authentic trust in God: that we may call out in faith, with sincerity and conviction, to God who saves and delivers us from all our suffering and need

For a spirit of hospitality: that our faith community may welcome all visitors as Christ and that our assemblies may be a place where all people can draw closer to God

For the Jewish people whom God has irrevocably called: that they may experience the compassion and mercy of God more fully

For all who have helped to strengthen our faith, for parents, teachers, and those who witness by the fidelity of their life: that they may continue to be examples of Christian life to all who encounter them

For freedom from bias and prejudice: that we may be open to the gifts of each person and work with all to build a just society

For countries and people who are divided by religious belief: that the Spirit of God will bring about new opportunities for understanding and cooperation

For refugees and immigrants, particularly those fleeing violence: that God will ease their suffering, guide them to safety, and stir the hearts of many to assist them

For all who are struggling with the aftermath of storms, wildfires or other natural disasters: that God will ease the force of nature, give them hope, and bring them the assistance they need to rebuild their lives

For all children, particularly those who have been kidnapped or who live in fear of harm: that God will heal their spirits and help them to grow into strong adults

For all who struggle with incurable illnesses: that God may comfort, strengthen, and sustain them each day

For all people who have experienced prejudice: that God will heal their hearts and help them to continue to use their gifts and talents for God’s glory

For the leaders of our nation: that God will give them wisdom and inspire them in developing new policies on refugees and immigration

For all who are persecuted for their faith: that God will strengthen them, guide them away from danger and help them to be faithful witnesses to the Gospel

For all who will begin college soon:  that God will help them to make good choices, build new friendships and learn about themselves and the world around them

For Peace: that God will inspire world leaders in easing the tensions with North Korea and in promote the common good of the human family
