Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may convey hope and healing to all who are in distress through our friendship, our listening and our service

For a spirit of listening: that God will free us from the noise that blocks our ability to hear the Word of God and the distractions that obscure the hopes that God has placed within our hearts

For a spirit of openness: that our hearts may be ready to receive God’s word and that the Spirit of God will help us to put God’s vision for tomorrow into practice today,

For a deepening of compassion: that we may feel the pain and the longings of the poor, the physically and mentally challenged, and of the marginalized of our society so that we may journey with them in faith

For courage: that God will fill us with strength and desire to reach out and touch those who are looked down upon or devalued by society

For a spirit of welcome and hospitality in our assembly: that all who join us for worship, community or service may experience the love of Christ and a warm welcome

For all who have been victims of discrimination or prejudice: that God will heal their pain and renew their spirits

For all who work with the poor and homeless: that they may continually see Christ in all whom they meet

For a greater awareness of the powerless and voiceless members of society: that we may recognize their struggles, hear their stories, and give voice to their needs

For all who have hearing or speech problems: that we may affirm them as sisters and brothers and help them to fully use of their gifts for God’s glory

For all world leaders: that they recognize the dignity of all people regardless of status, wealth, or social position and seek to meet the basic needs of every person

For all who are fearful and anxious: that they may find hope and courage in God’s Word and in the fellowship of this community

For all who are suffering from drought or wildfires: that God will ease their suffering, send favorable weather, protect them from further harm, and renew their spirits

For all who have fled their homes because of persecution or violence: that God will lead them to safety, bring an end to violence and guide them in finding new communities to call home

For all who have experienced violence: that God will hear their wounds, nurture their spirits, and help them to live life fully

For all who will be attending the World Meeting of Families: that God will guide them safely on their travel and help them to grow in faith and love in their time together

For Peace: that God will inspire leaders to make new efforts for peace, open hearts to dialogue and guide them in  protecting of the dignity of each person

[USA] For all who labor and enable us to be nourished, to live safely and be productive: that God will bless them in mind, body and spirit, and renew their energy and creativity
