Lord, help us know our need of you.

THE
GOSPEL
Mark 7:31-37
He said to him, “Ephphatha!”—that is, “Be opened!” And immediately the man’s ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly.
|
Jesus,
take us
by ourselves
from the crowd and
put your grace into our hearts.
We want to know God everywhere,
in the crash of waves,
the call of a friend,
the cry of the
poor.
Just as you gave voice to the voiceless,
touch our tongues with speech.
Dig out ears in us.
Let us hear and speak
the truth and
wonder
of
the
Word
that you are.
THE FIRST READING
Isaiah 35:4-7a
Here is your God; he comes to save you.
|
We
stand in
the burning desert
seeking promised water.
God, make us strong.
Open our eyes
and choke
back our
fears.
Make us
leap like the stag
and make song burst forth from our throats!
Let streams flow from our wasteland,
rivers and trees from barren plains.
Like the thirsty ground,
we long to drink
living springs
of water.
THE
SECOND
READING
James 2:1-5
Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith?
|
Who are the poor?
Those who wear shabby clothes?
Sometimes shabby is happy.
Can’t fine clothes and a
fine roof mean
woe?
Who among us
is without
need?
Jesus,
we beg you,
take us into your poverty.
Make us rich
in love.
