Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the church: that we may experience salvation as God's gift, accept it humbly and share it generously with others

For all who seek God and for those inquiring into Christianity: that the Spirit of God will open them to God’s presence and lead them into a life giving relationship with Christ

For the grace to prefer nothing to Christ: that we may live each day encountering Christ in people and events so that we may acknowledge everything as a gift from God

For freedom from envy: that we may appreciate the generosity of God in all the gifts and blessings that others and we receive and rejoice with them in God’s bounty

For a spirit of openness and receptivity before God: that we may accept God’s abundant love as God chooses to show it and be free to receive it rather than control it

For all who have returned to the practice of Christianity: that we may welcome them and support them as they strive to be disciples

For the young people who are in religious education, particularly those who are preparing for sacraments this year: that they may grow in their knowledge and love of God and in their commitment to the Christian community

For all who have lost hope or who are suffering depression: that they may experience God’s presence with them today and recognize someone’s love for them

For all who are recovering from disasters and those working to assist them: that God will give them strength, wisdom and protect them from harm

For all who are unemployed or underemployed: that God will open opportunities for them to use their gifts and talents for the good of society and not allow their time and energy to be idled away

For Congress and members of the Administration: that God will guide them in setting policies that promote life, protect individual’s conscience, and advance the common good

For a deeper appreciation of the interconnectedness of all life: that we may discern the marvelous ways in which God has created the world and work to maintain the balance that God has established

For migrant workers and their families: that they may achieve just working conditions, educational opportunities, and respect

For all who are approaching death, for those with terminal illnesses, and for those who care for them: that they may approach death with hope and prefer Christ before all else

For peace throughout the world: that God will help us recognize the value of peace and guide us in promoting the dignity of every human life
