Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that God will stir up the Spirit who has been given to each of us and embolden us to love without expectation and to forgive without condition

For the flowering of Faith: that we may grow in our reliance upon and loyalty to God in every area of our lives and be open to following wherever God will lead us

For a vision of hope: that all who face violence, destruction, and chaos may be renewed by the Spirit of God and become a source of light and promise to others who are struggling

For a growth in patience: that God will sustain and strengthen us as we await the fulfillment of God’s promises and plans

For all who are participating in the Synod on the Amazon: that the Spirit will inspire them with effective ways to strengthen the faith and renew the church in that region

For all who are searching for meaning and value in their life:  that they may experience God’s gentle invitations and recognize the goodness which God has in mind for them

For the grace to support one another: that we may affirm and support one another’s growth in faith through all of life’s phases and transitions

For all who serve the church in Holy Orders: that Spirit of God will inspire their ministry and embolden them with wisdom and love to serve God’s people

For all who suffer for their faith, particularly those living in oppressive societies: that they may know God’s presence in their suffering and be renewed in spirit

For those who work for social justice: that they may continue to name the vision of God’s reign where all will be sisters and brothers caring for and seeking the good of one another

For greater respect for human life: that the hearts of all may appreciate God’s gift of life from conception to natural death

For all who have been wounded by abuse: that God will heal their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wounds and help them make a new start in life

For nations facing an outbreak of the Ebola virus: that God will help them provide for the treatment of those with the disease and effective ways to prevent the spread of the disease

For healing of the earth’s climate: that the Spirit will open hearts to the seriousness of the challenge and give courage to those who are working to find solutions to our home

For an end to violence in our cities: that the pain and anger may move people to actions that will promote healing and justice between racial and religious groups
