Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we embrace both the dying and the rising in our following of Christ so that we may share fully in the new life of the Spirit

For the grace of to bear affliction: that God will strengthen us in the face of trial and hardship so that we may remain faithful disciples each day

For the grace of detachment: that God will free us from the bonds of our egos and help us to seek the good of others before the fulfillment of our own plans

For a deeper identification with Christ: that in times of temptation we may look to Christ who was tempted in every way but who remained the faithful Child of God

For the grace to surrender pride: that we may honestly appreciate our gifts and weaknesses, and surrender our false sense of self to God who heals all weaknesses

For all who exercise authority: that they may use their authority to call forth the gifts of others, free those who are unjustly restrained, and to lead others to wholeness and freedom

For all leaders of the church: that they may follow Christ in tending to the needy and marginalized and never be seduced by power or prestige

For all who are oppressed, for refugees and those who suffer from war: that God will inspire people to reach out in service to ease their burdens and offer them care and compassion

For the people in Mission lands: that Spirit will move amongst many people and lead them to a new experience of God’s presence and love for them

For all who serve in the missions: that God will help them to faithfully proclaim the Good News and console them in times of loneliness and discouragement

For Synod of Bishops: that God will inspire them to establish new paths for spreading the Gospel and renewing the faith of the people of God

For all who are unemployed: that God will strengthen their spirits and help them to find signs of hope as they await new ways to use their gifts

For all with mental or emotional illness or disability: that God will grant them strength and wholeness, and help them to live life fully

For all who are caught in human trafficking: that God will free them, heal their wounds, and restore them to their loved ones

For all who will be voting in November: that God will give them insight and wisdom as they consider the various candidates and issues on the ballot

For all who are working for peace: that God will inspire and strengthen them to continue to offer options for peace even when few seem to listen
