A Poem To Sit
With
30th Sunday of Ordinary Time B

On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth,
he began to cry out and say,
“Jesus, son of David, have pity on me.”

That terrible
thirst
of the Crucified
whose posture
imputed
blame to none
but only
love
longing
unto
the
spilling of
blood
so precious
are
we to him
his only crown
treasure
all—he gives
his selfbread
to
become us
and begs only
belief
that forgiveness
is his hunger
us
to hallow
