We recognize that it is from John that most of us get our picture of the cleansing of the Temple. But John is being more than pictorial. The point is not drama but symbol.
John Kavanaugh, SJ
God does not advise us not to kill. God commands us. And it is a command not based upon whether we are happy or productive, or whether we are dealing with our friends, co-religionists, good Americans, or the innocent.
John J. Pilch
The word “remembered” or “recalled” is a technical term used by John to describe the process by which the community of believers gradually came to view Jesus as the fulfillment of Scripture after his resurrection.
To pray in God’s temple we must pray in the peace of the
Church, in the unity of the body of Christ, which is made up of many
believers throughout the world. When we pray in this temple our
prayers are heard, because whoever prays in the peace of the Church
prays in spirit and in truth.
Reginald H. Fuller
