Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may grow in our awareness of our dignity as temples of the Holy Spirit

For the grace of renewal: that we may grow in our commitment to God’s covenant with us and strive to place God at the center of all our decisions

For the grace of conversion: that we may live the great commandment, loving God with all our heart and soul and our neighbor as ourselves

For a deeper appreciation of the commandments: that we may allow the wisdom and vision of the commandments given to Moses, to form our hearts and guide our decisions

For the grace to serve God: that we recognize ourselves as servants of God, honoring God’s name by our words and deeds, and never attempting to use God for our benefit

For a cleansing of the temple of our hearts: that we may offer our self-sacrificing service to God and others as we seek to worship God in spirit and truth

For all who teach and preach: that they may faithfully proclaim Christ crucified and lead others into the mystery of God’s love

For all who suffer injustice: that our hearts may be stirred to take action to free those bound unjustly and lift the burdens from those who are oppressed

For all bookkeepers and church business managers: that they may be faithful and honest stewards of all the community’s resources

For our Jewish brothers and sisters: that God will strengthen their faith and renew their spirits

For refugees and all who are fleeing danger: that God will lead them to safety and stir others to provide for their needs

For all who are unemployed: that God will give them hope and open pathways to use their gifts and talents

For all the elect: that God will deepen their faith and their desire for baptism

For the President and the members of Congress: that God will inspire and guide their work as they seek to face the challenges of our society

For all victims of violence, particularly school violence: that God will heal all who have been injured and bring peace to all who mourn those who have died

For an end to bloodshed and violence, particularly in Syria: that God will lead human hearts away from killing and violence into paths of peace and reconciliation
