Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church, that we may be a source of living water for all who thirst for meaning and purpose in their lives

For the grace of courage: that we may surrender our fear and discomfort and be graced with freedom to share the joy we have found in knowing Christ

For a greater openness to the Word of God: that we may take God’s Word to heart; ponder it; and draw life from it

For the grace to seek authentic fulfillment: that we may not be seduced by superficial satisfactions but seek the One who can fulfill our deepest longings

For the courage to recognize and admit our sinfulness: that like the woman at the well, we may honestly face our life and ask for help in changing our direction

For all who face prejudice and discrimination: that God will heal their wounds and help them to continue to share their gifts for the good of society

For all who thirst every day, especially refugees, the victims of violence, natural disasters, and war: that God will help and assist them and that our hearts may be more sensitive to the plight of all who are suffering

For people living in areas of drought: that God will hear their pleas and send rain to crops and sources of drinking water

For all the Elect: that they may reflect upon their lives and allow God more fully into their hearts this Lent

For all candidates for full communion: that God will guide them into fuller surrender into God’s love and help them unite more deeply with their parish community

For greater recognition of the ministry of women:  that we may be open to and encouraging of the ministerial gifts of women who bring the Good News to many who never come to Church

For the grace of conversion: that we may be open to a change of heart and to putting God first in our lives

For a deepening of Prayer in our lives: that we may find ways to make room for God and spend time in prayer and reflection during these coming weeks

For a deepening of hope: that through the Spirit who has been poured out upon us, we may face all challenges and obstacles with hope because God is with us

For the President and the members of Congress: that God will inspire them as they face the challenges of our society and help them develop policies that promote the common good

For members of legislatures: that God will guide their budget and priority setting so that the needs of the powerless and marginalized may be addressed

For an end to bloodshed and violence, particularly for those confronted by ISIS: that God will lead human hearts away from killing and violence into paths of peace and reconciliation
