(Introductory Prayers)

THE GOSPEL
John 9:1-41 or 9:1, 6-9, 13-17, 34-38

He smeared the clay on his eyes and he said to him, “Go wash in the Pool of Siloam”

Jesus,
will you cleanse our
blind-man
eyes?

Let us see through mud.

Move us from
by-standers to disciples,
from hiders in blinders to fearless believers;
from dwellers in darkness to
holders of your light.

Let
us see
with our souls.

THE FIRST READING
1 Samuel 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a

Not as man sees does God see.

His brothers were startled
when you picked
David,

the lowly, sheep tending son.

Please
startle us again.
Pick us. Please say to us,
“These are the ones,” the least likely
to do your
work.

Then, you do your work
in us.

THE SECOND READING
Ephesians 5:8-14

But now you are light in the Lord

Christ,
cast your light upon us.
Let it shine out from us

and
gleam upon
every sorry place,
every wonderful face,
all who need your grace.
Amen.
