Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may accept the length, breadth, and depth of God’s love for us and share it with others

For the successors to the Apostles: that they may bear faithful witness to the resurrection and build up the Church through their preaching

For all who desire a deeper experience of the Holy Spirit: that God will renew their minds and hearts and fill their spirits with the Spirit of truth and love

For the grace of God’s protection: that God will safeguard all the church, particularly leaders, children, and those new to the faith from confusion and misdirection

For a deeper discipleship: that consecrated in the truth, we may be people of unconditional love, offering hope, forgiveness, and acceptance to all who enter our lives

For wisdom and insight: that the Spirit will help us discern God’s call, see through the diverse situations in our lives and faithfully follow Christ on the path of life

For the grace of Christian unity: that God will remove the misunderstandings, heal the wounds, and give us new vision so that the Body of Christ can give a common witness to the world

For the healing of isolation and separation: that the Spirit of God will give us insight and understanding so that we may see how connected we are with one another, with all the human family, and with all of creation

For all who are opposed to the work of Christ: that their hearts may be touched and their minds opened by God’s love and truth

For all who are graduating this spring: that they may find employment that will use their gifts and enable them to make a difference in the world

For all who have grown spiritually weary: that God will renew their spirits, help them recognize God presence in their lives and give them a new vision of their discipleship

For all who share in the social justice mission of the church: that God will strengthen them to bear effective witness to the liberating power of truth and compassion

For all who are burdened by poverty: that God will open new pathways for them to find education, employment and housing

For all who are suffering for the Gospel: that God will renew their spirits, confirm them in truth and sustain them as faithful disciples

For the gift of peace: that God will touch hearts and give courage to world leaders to work untiringly for a just and lasting` peace
