Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we who have come into the light may radiate the Light of Christ into the dark areas of our families, workplaces and society

For each of us gathered here: that we may know this night (day) how close God is to us, how loved we are, and how blest we are by God

For all peoples on the earth: for peace and good will; for reconciliation and forgiveness; and for an end to terrorism

For an outpouring of God's favor in our time; for a rekindling of a childlike spirit of wonder and awe; and for a renewed excitement about life

For the grace to bring God into our world: that we may allow the Word to dwell in our hearts, become enfleshed through our lives, and revealed in our words and deeds

For all children: that their imaginations may lead them to new and exciting visions of life and to a deeper appreciation for all their opportunities

For all who are new parents: that they may recognize the gift of God that they hold and faithfully nurture the gifts and talents that God has given their child

For a healing of all fear: that the angel’s message, Fear Not, may free us from the bonds of fear and impel us to live boldly

For all families, both near and far: that God will help us recognize the blessings that we are for each other and help us to affirm and encourage one another along life’s journey

For reconciliation in families: that God will heal old wounds and help us to recognize the gift that each person is

For all who celebrate Christmas: that our minds may be more aware and our hearts more responsive to all who are in need, particularly the victims of war, refugees, and those struggling with recovery from natural disasters

For the Christians of the Holy Land: that they may be relieved of their sufferings and continue to be signs of God’s love in their land

For all who are traveling or away from home this night (day), particularly members of the military: that God will guide their movements, preserve them in love, and bring them home safely

For all who are in need, for the homeless, the unemployed, those who are sick, and those living with stress: that God will calm their worry, free their hearts, and bring healing and hope to their spirits

For all who find Christmas difficult: that God will touch their lives with love and help them find supportive friends

For all who are unable to celebrate this day, for refugees, those in war torn areas, those in prison, and those who are in pain: that the light and love of Christ will touch them and bring newness of life to them

For Peace: that the Angel’s message may awaken a new desire for peace in the hearts of all people and motivate leaders to promote new efforts to end violence and resolve disputes
