THE GOSPEL
Midnight and Christmas Day
Luke 2:1-14 and John 1:1-18 (long form); 1:1-5, 9-14 (short form)The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
In
Bethlehem
the
light
broke through the dark.
It stayed with us,
and we no
longer
fear
the
night.
O
Christ,
give us a glimpse;
let everyone find you now,
shining like the sun, or the sliver of a moon,
hummingbird’s wing or spider’s web;
in laborers, or in a baby’s laugh
in those with no home
and in migrants.
Let no part of your creation
ever be hidden from
the glow of your
earthly, Godly
presence.
Let us
find
you in
all things
every minute
of
every
day.
THE FIRST READING
Midnight
Isaiah 9:1-6You have brought them abundant joy and great rejoicing
For
a child
is born to us,
a son given us.
Mary gave birth to her firstborn son.
Upon his
shoulders dominance rests.
His victory is vast and forever peaceful.
You will find him wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger.
This is the name they give him: Wonder-Counselor,
God-Hero, Father-Forever
Prince of Peace,
Jesus.
Come,
let us adore him.
THE SECOND READING
Mass During the Day
Hebrews 1:1-6
For to which of the angels did God ever say: “You are my son; this day I have I begotten you”?
Unto
our ancestors
God spoke in partial
and various ways, tacitly,
through prophets and others,
as through a wall or over it or around it.
To us
He speaks directly
through his
Son.
O God in your generous love, you speak to us, face to face,
straight to our hearts, through Christ.
Let us listen, help us
hear.
