THE GOSPEL
Luke 1:57-66, 80Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed,
and he spoke blessing God.
Zachariah’s
doubt gave way to faith.
His silence uttered deaf words:
“John is his name.”
Holy Spirit,
let us not stand wordless when you tell us God’s truth.
Let us trust it with whole hearts and souls,
Let it give us joy and gladness,
and may it shower
praise of God
and belief
upon
us.
THE FIRST READING
Isaiah 49:1-6
I will make you a light to the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.
O God,
In our mothers’ womb you formed us.
You gave us our names and made us just the way we are.
Make us now Christ’s light to all the nations,
all the way to the edges of the earth.
Make us your own fire
to illumine the
world.
THE SECOND READING
Acts 13:22-26
I am not he. Behold, one is coming after me.
John said, “I am not he.
Behold, one is coming after me;
I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.”
Holy Spirit,
let me know my unworthiness
and yet make me able
to open up
Christ
to the world.
