Jesus came and stood in their midst
and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

(Gospel)

II Povarello

“Sister tree” he said
“speak to me of God”

and the almond tree
blossomed

once a wolf
gave up thoughts of
fresh rabbit

even sparrows came
to rest and listen

a saint bringing out
the best—always

what seems against
nature—that hidden

self secret in pith
that gift in marrow

J. Janda
