Ideas for General Intercessions

These ideas are designed to be starting points for the prayers of a particular community of faith.

Joe Milner

For the Church: that we may welcome our sisters and brothers from all corners of the earth and give witness and praise to God with one voice

For a flourishing of the fruits of the Spirit: that we may manifest love, joy, peace, and all the fruits of the Spirit in our lives

For the grace to live in the truth: that the Spirit of God will lead us into a greater understanding of who we are and of what God is asking of us

For all gathered here: that we may fully use the gifts of the Spirit to encourage one another on our journeys of faith and build up the Body of Christ

For all who announce the Good News, especially Bishops, Pastors, Preachers, and Teachers: that they may faithfully and fearlessly announce the Gospel message

For all burdened by depression or despair: that the Spirit will bring hope to their hearts and new vision to their minds

For a renewed sense of mission: that the Spirit will inspire us in confronting the watered down values of society and in building a society of justice and peace

For all who have been initiated into the new life of Christ this Easter season: that they may continue to listen to God, build up the church and grow in love

For an end to the divisions among Christians: that the Spirit will show us new ways to work together to announce freedom, bring healing and promote reconciliation as signs of God’s reign

For all who are ill: that the healing love of the Spirit will touch them, strengthen them and bring them to wholeness

For all who have experienced injustice: that the Spirit will bring forth the truth for those wrongly accused, heal their pain, and give them confidence to live life fully

For the members of Congress: that the Spirit will inspire them toward new ways of promoting the common good and of protecting the most vulnerable

For all who are recovering from natural disasters, particularly in Hawaii: that God will send peace upon nature, protect people from further harm and give them strength to rebuild their lives

For all who are being ordained this spring: that God will guide and sustain them as they serve the people of God

For all who are graduating this spring: that God will guide them in using their gifts and talents so that they will enrich the world and spread hope and peace through their efforts
